The idea
Watching with subtitles in the language you're learning teaches you nothing when you can't follow it. Watching in your own language teaches you nothing either. Duosub shows both lines at once, so the sentence you just heard and the sentence you understand sit on top of each other.
How it works
YouTube already generates translated caption tracks for most videos. Duosub asks for two of them and renders them together, rather than paying a translation API for something the player can already do — which is why it costs nothing to run and nothing to use.
